VA Mobile Apps for PTSD

VA mobile applications (apps) provide self-help, education and support. They also have treatment companion apps, for use with a health care provider, to make treatment easier. There are apps for iOS and Android devices.

PTSD is a serious mental health condition that often needs professional evaluation and treatment. These apps are not intended to replace needed professional care.

Free and Discount Tickets for Veterans

Veteran Tickets Foundation’s website,, is available for active duty and veterans to obtain free tickets or discounts on activities throughout the nation. This great group started in Arizona a few years ago by veterans.

After you sign up by submitting a DD214, you only have to pay the postage for many venues. This includes baseball tickets — many Cactus League games this year were included — and plays at such places as Gammage auditorium. There are many small theaters that offer tickets including in Wickenburg and Tucson. NASCAR and the Phoenix Open were just some of the many special events that helped veterans save money.

Tickets given away to date: 344,309. They have given tickets away in all 50 states. Arizona, Texas, Missouri, California, Florida and Washington, D.C. received among the most donations. Distribution has included veterans, 13 percent; active military, 21 percent; military organizations, 2 percent and military bases, 64 percent.

They are working to have more veterans sign up online. In 2010, the organization ran at 94.5 percent, which means that 94.5 cents of every dollar went back out the door to their verified veterans. For 2011, they are in the 98-99 percent range. They have been approved for the Combined Federal Campaign charity list. They are waiting to hear back about their Arizona State Combined Campaign charity list.

To register, you need to send your DD214 by either fax, scan or mail. Leaving for the summer? You may transfer by logging in your number to the next destination.

Tip of the Hat

Canyon Vista Medical Center and the Legacy Foundation of Southeast Arizona have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020-2021 Veterans Wall event for this year.  The current 12 veterans will continue to be featured on the Veterans Wall until 2021.  This event has always been a highlight for the community, and they look forward to continuing the tradition for the 2021-2022 Veterans Wall.

Coronado Chapter, MOAA, has five members currently being honored on the Veterans Wall: Jack James Isler, USA; George Kirmse, USA; Gene Manring, USA; Ronald McCreery, USA (Posthumous); and Maureen Pryor, USA.  In prior years an additional 16 members have been honored.
